3 Bangladeshi cattle smugglers lynched to death in Tripura

The group of villagers in Tripura rushed to the spot where a violent confrontation broke out. The villagers killed the 3 cattle thieves on the spot.

3 Bangladeshi cattle smugglers lynched to death in Tripura

Villagers in Tripura lynched 3 Bangladeshi cattle thieves to death on Wednesday. The incident occurred at Khowai district in the North Eastern state. The deceased have been identified as Juel Miah, Sajal Miah, and Pandit Miah. The cattle smugglers were residents of Habibganj in Bangladesh.

The incident occurred when 2 villagers of the Bidyabil village under Champahowar Police Station spotted the 3 Bangladeshis hiding in the area. When the 2 villagers confronted them, the cattle smugglers attacked them with sharp edged weapons.

The 2 injured villagers, Dhirendra Telenga and Mithun Telenga, managed to flee the scene and alert others.

A group of villagers then rushed to the spot where a violent confrontation broke out. The villagers killed the 3 cattle thieves on the spot. The Police have confirmed the chain of events. Indian authorities worked in coordination with their Bangladeshi counterparts to confirm the identities of the cattle thieves.

BGB contacts BSF over lynching of 3 cattle smugglers in Tripura

Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) have contacted the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) over the incident. A senior BGB official told Dhaka Tribune, “Efforts are ongoing to verify the authenticity of the incident and to gather detailed information. All necessary measures are being taken to maintain peace and harmony in the border area and to prevent the recurrence of such unwanted incidents in the future.”

According to BGB, the incident occurred inside 4-5 kilometres of Indian Territory from the border. The official further said, “Initial reports suggest the victims may have entered India with the intention of cattle smuggling. Fearing theft, local Indian residents attacked them at night. All three died on the spot.”

Indian authorities confirmed that they will hand over the bodies to their Bangladeshi counterparts after completing all formalities.
