Israel and the Charlie Kirk Assassination: Why the Theories Won’t Go Away

Conspiracy theories tie Israel to Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Candace Owens fuels claims, Bill Ackman denies them, yet Israel’s sway in U.S. politics looms.

Israel seems to get dragged in every US issue

Charlie Kirk’s assassination shook the American right to its core. The 30-year-old conservative firebrand was shot dead while speaking at Utah Valley University, a killing that prosecutors say was carried out by 22-year-old Tyler James Robinson, a man who confessed online that he “had enough of Kirk’s hatred.” On paper, the case looks clear: a lone gunman, a confession, forensic evidence tying him to the weapon. Yet in the days that followed, the story spiralled far beyond Utah. Israel, Kirk’s longtime ally and a nation he often praised suddenly found itself dragged into the narrative.

Candace Owens and the Whisper of “Pressure”

Leading the charge was commentator Candace Owens, who suggested that Kirk had been under unusual pressure from pro-Israel donors and figures in the weeks before his death. She alleged that billionaire Bill Ackman hosted an “intervention” in the Hamptons, where, in her words:

“I know that Charlie was offered a ton of money in this moment. A ton of money… and threats were made.”

Owens even hinted that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu himself had reached out to Kirk, extending personal invitations and showing concern that Kirk might have been drifting in his political stance. For Owens and her followers, this wasn’t random violence, it was punishment.

Her claims found a ready audience online. The Anti-Defamation League reported that in just 48 hours after the shooting, more than 10,000 posts tied Kirk’s murder to Israel, many echoing old antisemitic tropes of shadowy Zionist power.

The Denials: “Malicious Nonsense”

Not everyone stayed silent in the face of Owens’ allegations. Bill Ackman, the hedge-fund billionaire at the center of her story, hit back hard.

On X, he wrote:

“At no time have I ever threatened Charlie Kirk, Turning Point or anyone associated with him. I have never blackmailed anyone, let alone Charlie Kirk. I have never offered Charlie or Turning Point any money in an attempt to influence Charlie’s opinion on anything.”

Ackman called the claims “malicious nonsense” and “an insult to Kirk’s memory.” He said his last meeting with Kirk was warm, cordial, even inspiring:

“I felt incredibly privileged to have spent a day and shared a meal with Charlie Kirk this summer.”

For Ackman and others, the evidence still points to Robinson — a radicalized young man acting on his own anger. Investigators say Robinson left a handwritten note and told others on Discord he was “taking out” Kirk. His DNA was on the rifle. The picture, they argue, is one of domestic political violence, not a foreign hit.

Israel’s Presence in the Narrative

Meanwhile, Israeli leaders mourned Kirk loudly and publicly. Netanyahu called him “a steadfast friend of Israel and a true ally of the Jewish people”. That praise was, for many, just normal diplomatic courtesy. But for those already suspicious, it looked like overcompensation.

This is the paradox: Israel did not pull the trigger, yet Israel looms over the debate. Owens and more fringe voices see hidden hands and secret money. Ackman and mainstream conservatives see baseless conspiracy theories fueled by antisemitism.

The Bigger Picture: Why Israel Always Shows Up

Even if Israel had nothing to do with Kirk’s death and so far there is no evidence that it did, the very speed with which it entered the story says something about American politics.

Israel is not just another country to the U.S. It is a symbol, a cause, and a political force. From AIPAC’s lobbying on Capitol Hill to the millions of dollars in campaign donations, Israel has real influence in Washington. For critics, that influence is outsized. For supporters, it is a natural bond between allies.

So when a conservative star like Kirk is killed, Israel inevitably appears in the narrative, either as the supposed puppet master or as the ally left to grieve.

Misguided Namecalling?

Charlie Kirk’s killing was a tragedy born, it seems, of America’s own political violence. Yet the debate over Israel’s role shows how tangled U.S. politics has become with perceptions, and misperceptions, of foreign influence.

Candace Owens and her supporters see dark hands in the shadows. Bill Ackman and others reject that outright as dangerous lies. Somewhere in the middle sits an undeniable fact: Israel does have enormous sway in American politics.

That sway doesn’t mean Israel killed Charlie Kirk. But it does explain why, in moments of chaos and grief, its name is always dragged into the fight.
