Orthodox Kashmiri Muslims viciously trolled and abused a Kashmiri girl on social media for hugging a teacher. Reports indicate that visuals were captured during a Physicswallah event in Anantnag, Kashmir. Several X accounts, claiming to be from Kashmir, declared that it is against Kashmiri culture.
Orthodox Kashmiri Muslims have called for a boycott of Physicswallah over the photograph. They used abusive language against the girl and her parents.
Another user said that they have failed as a society. The user described the act as a “moral rot” and said it is a time for introspection.
Orthodox Kashmiris condemned the girl for hugging someone who is not her ‘Mehram’. ‘Mehram’ is an Arabic term that refers to an individual with whom marriage cannot happen, such as father, brother and son.
One user said that ‘Qayamat’ is near now that Hijabi girls are openly hugging non-Muslim men.
There has been consistent outrage from the orthodox elements of Kashmiri Muslim society about what they see as dilution of Islamic values. Not too long, Muslims in Kashmir created a massive outrage over a fashion show in the Union Territory.
