The Delhi Terror Attack is the first terror incident in a major Indian city in a decade, probably more. The death toll is in double digits. The authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the attack. Without delving into speculations, there are lessons that we can draw from it.
Firstly, we now have some information on the suspects. Most, if not all, of them appear to be highly educated individuals from the Muslim community. This has become a recurring them in Global Terrorism. Terror groups recruit well educated Muslim men and women. These individuals then go on to carry out highly sophisticated terror attacks.
Secondly, Pakistan remains the fountainhead of terrorism in the Indian Subcontinent. The terrorists who perpetuated the Delhi Terror Attack are from Jammu & Kashmir. The terrorists are part of a Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) module. JeM is a Pakistani terrorist group.

Thirdly, Pakistan would not succeed in its endeavours without support from people on our side of the border. All the terrorists who orchestrated the Delhi Blast were Indians by citizenship. They lived in India, worked in India and conspired against India. And this is not the only time it has happened.
Indeed, it is these people who should worry us the most. Some of them are doctors, some engineers, some scholars. They are not desperate individuals with no chance at a good life. If they wanted, they could have lived a comfortable life and leave a small fortune for their children. Instead, they decide to sacrifice it all for a toxic ideology and often die a dog’s death. It should worry us all.
The 48 hours before the Delhi Terror Attack
Within the 48 hours preceding the Delhi Terror Attack, Indian intelligences agencies busted two major terrorist modules. The first was in Gujarat, where a Hyderabadi doctor was arrested for plotting a biological terrorist attack.
The Gujarat ATS arrested 35-year old Ahmed Mohiyuddin Saiyed on November 8 with guns, cartridges and 4kg castor-bean mash. The highly toxic poison Ricin is extracted from the mash. Saiyed’s arrest led to the capture of multiple other terrorists. Authorities found that the plot is linked to the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) in Afghanistan. ISKP is an opponent of the Taliban regime. They have committed terrorist attacks in Afghanistan as well.

The second is the Faridabad module, which the Delhi Terror Attack is linked to. Authorities recovered 2900 kg of explosives from two rented homes of Dr Mujammil Shakeel. The doctor from Pulwama works at the Al Falah Medical College and Hospital in Faridabad. Authorities had arrested him 10 days ago after they discovered his ties to JeM.
After the Faridabad module was busted, people assumed that the crisis was over. There were congratulatory messages on social media and people expressed their gratitude to the Indian national security apparatus. But the worst was yet to come. According to initial investigations, the Delhi terrorist triggered the suicide attack as soon as he discovered the developments in Faridabad.
How Intelligence Agencies lured us into a false sense of security
India is unfortunately surrounded by enemies, both without and within. Pakistan does not have a cause to exist apart from waging Jihad against India. The Indian Government appears to have reached a detente with China but relations with them are always on shaky grounds.
In addition to that, we have far too many people within our borders who carry Indian citizenship but take inspiration from Pakistan. Pakistan’s mere existence serves as a source of inspiration for Islamic radicals in India. It’s an unfortunate reality that we have to make peace with. Furthermore, Pakistan often trains these individuals, supplies them with arms and ammunition and provides them with all the tools to carry out terror attacks in India.
If we have a sense of normalcy in India today, it’s only due to the hard work, due diligence and dedication that our Indian national security apparatus serves with. Every other week, they bust some or the other terrorist module in some part of the country. And yet, the rest of carry on like everything is fine under the Sun.

In 2025 alone, Indian intelligence agencies have busted at least 10 terrorist modules across the country. That is more than 1 terrorist module per month. It’s very likely that I am underestimating the number by a huge margin. The point is that this is not normal. It’s a false sense of normalcy that the intelligence agencies have created, nurtured and sustained by their exceptional hard work.
Yes, the Delhi Terrorist Attack is a tragedy. Yes, it should never have happened. It’s true that it is a major setback for the Indian national security apparatus. But it is also true that they will learn their lessons and move forward. It is also true that they have mostly succeeded in foiling a much larger terror attack.
The Indian national security apparatus needs to succeed every time. The terrorists need to succeed only once. More than ever, we should resist the urge to give in to doom and gloom right after a terror attack happens. It’s understandable why we might feel that way. But we should take courage and strength from the fact that we do have men and women in this country who will foil 999 of the 1000 attacks that the terrorists might plot.
This is the first terrorist attack in a major Indian city in over a decade. It’s the exception that proves the rule. We should never take the safety and security that we enjoy currently for granted. Because India has far too many enemies. And things could always get very bad very quickly.
