Back in September, Forpol had reported how an inter-factional dispute had broken out among ‘Urban Naxal’ groups over sexual assault allegations. The groups mainly involved were the Nazariya Magazine and Students’ For People’s Democracy (SfPD). The name of one group had surfaced during the controversy. It is the Bhagat Singh Chhatra Ekta Manch (bsCEM).
bsCEM has gained notoriety after the group was observed protesting in Delhi screaming pro-Terrorist slogans. People online soon identified the girl in the video as Ravjot from bsCEM.

Here, we are not going to talk about bsCEM and its Urban Naxal roots. Here, we will discuss SfPD’s allegations against bsCEM. I would request readers to check out the first two reports in this series before proceeding further. I will briefly summarise the two here but readers can read the first part here (Part 1) and second part here (Part 2).
The Sexual Assault Allegations
In 2024, an alleged sexual assault victim had accused one Mukundan Nair of sexual assault. The incidents had allegedly occurred the previous year. The Nazariya Magazine constituted an investigation committee in March 2024 to look into the matter. The alleged victim was a member of Nazariya while Mukundan was a member of FACAM, another Urban Naxal group.
The conclusion was that Mukundan Nair would go ‘rectification’. It is a Communist jargon I don’t know the meaning of. The victim was not satisfied with the result and accused Nazariya publicly of not taking her allegations seriously. In November 2024, Nazariya expelled the victim from the group.
Nazariya did not stop at that. They claimed that the victim was influenced by “Imperialist Reactionary Ideology” and engaged in “non-ideological sexual relationships” which strengthened “patriarchal practices”. Her actions apparently deviated from “communist morality”. Readers have to forgive me but I have no idea what these jargons mean.
One organisation that stood in support of the victim was SfPD. You can read about SfPD’s statements in detail in first two reports. It is again their statement against bsCEM that we will talk about here.
What the victim said about bsCEM
In December 2024, the SfPD reproduced a statement by the victim. The victim said that she wished to pursue legal action against the individuals involved in her character assassination. But she was not keen on it because she hasn’t had the best interactions with the Police.
Furthermore, these individuals are activists associated with bsCEM who participate in anti-establishment protests. So, she does not want them to suffer “unintended consequences” due to a “police investigation”. She also demanded that the bsCEM provide justification for their support to Nazariya.

The victim further said, “bsCEM are a constituent member of the anti displacement forum who expelled Mukundan for sexual assault on me. And yet, they have continued to refuse to comment on this.” She said that bsCEM supported her expulsion within a week.
She said, “Supporters and enablers of sexual assault have a welcome place in this movement.” She said that Nazariya slut-shamed her and bsCEM supported them even in this. She also claimed that several members of the group have slandered her privately.
In May 2025, the SfPD shared a photograph where bsCEM members are hanging out with Mukundan Nair. It said in a statement, “We urge all progressive democratic organisations and individuals to condemn bsCEM for shielding and enabling sexual assaulter Mukundan Nair.”

They also wanted Palestine support groups to answer for Rejaz who appears in the photographs. They also shared an old screenshot of Baadal announcing the removal of Mukundan Nair from FACAM. Baadal confirmed that they had come to know that Mukundan had sexually assaulted the victim.
Baadal is a senior member of bsCEM and FACAM. It is shocking that bsCEM members continued to click photographs with Mukundan despite knowing his offence.
SfPD vs bsCEM
Sometime after the May statement, multiple Urban Naxal groups including bsCEM and Nazariya jointly issued a statement against SfPD. In their statement, they accused the SfPD of being the “cool face of Surajkund Scheme.” I do not know what that means.
Furthermore, the joint statement spoke about the “post-modernist opportunist section of the petty bourgeoise.” It also spoke about a debate that Nazariya’s “Marxist-Leninist-Maoist” position won. I am afraid I keep repeating this. But I really have no idea what any of this means. Or what it has to do with sexual assault allegations.

As part of their response, SfPD pointed out that several people had questioned Nazariya and bsCEM for shielding a sex offender. It also accused the groups of deleting comments on their social media profiles and blocking people.
While some people may begin seeing the SfPD in a positive light, it is important to remember that they are a critical part of the Urban Naxal groups themselves. The Dharmasthala Scandal was exposed as a hoax. Nevertheless, the SfPD continued to perpetuate the fake allegations.
These Urban Naxal groups have used the victim of a sexual assault to further their personal political agenda. A sexual predator sexually assaulted a girl. But these groups used ‘Communist Morality’ to initiate debates about Maoist and Marxist theology instead.
