A reality TV program where Immigrants would vie for U.S. citizenship is being considered by the Department of Homeland Security. The show, allegedly called “The American,” was pitched by Rob Worsoff, a Canadian-born writer, producer, and director, according to a Daily Mail story published on Thursday. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem is a fan of the idea.
Although it may sound like a joke, According to Daily Mail, the concept is real and is detailed in a 35-page program presentation created in collaboration with the DHS secretary.
The show is in the “very beginning stages” of the department’s review process and has not been accepted or rejected, DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin told HuffPost on Thursday. But according to McLaughlin, the claim that Noem was aware of or involved in the show was “completely false.”
The pitch of any reality or scripted show has not been “backed” or even examined by Secretary Noem. Every year, the Department of Homeland Security receives hundreds of television show pitches, ranging from HSI white collar investigations to documentaries about ICE and CBP border operations, McLaughlin said in a statement. “Each proposal undergoes a thorough vetting process prior to denial or approval.”
The pitch being made by the same person who earlier made very American reality shows like – “Duck dynasty” and “Dating Naked”, which gives off a certain kind of appeal to the average American. Pehaps, The same American who would want to see Immigrants being voted out in Survivor series styles idol challenge. Interestingly, Worsoff is a Canadian born writer and producer.
This proposal and even the idea of a reality show for American Citizenship is as bizarre as The current ICE department’s leadership’s staged photo-ops and glamorization of deportation.
According to the Daily Mail, the plan calls for 12 competitors to arrive at Ellis Island in New York City by boat, specifically called “The Citizen Ship,” before taking the train across the United States and participating in a variety of tasks, such as rolling logs in Wisconsin or mining for gold in a San Francisco mine. Worsoff proposed, “We will be reminded along the way what it means to be American – through the eyes of the people who want it most.”
The report also mentioned the alleged prize for the same show –
1. 1 million American Airlines points – Because nothing screams America more than domestic travel on economy seats and a complete aversion to international travel.
2. A $10,000 Starbucks Gift Card – Because, to be American you must spend insane amount of money for coffee made of non-existent artificial flavors and trendy names.
3. A Lifetime Supply Of 76 Gasoline – Americans love their cars and ungodly amounts of driving everyday, so this is the most American choice according to the author.
Now, there is a either/or situation going on with prize number 2 and prize number 3. The reason is pretty simple as we all know Americans believe in “No Free Lunch’. Here the disposition is slightly different, the show turns it around and makes it – “No Free Coffee”. Either you pay for the gas to go to a Starbucks or You pay for the coffee.
The news has come out right after Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) chastised Kristi Noem, At the House Homeland Security Committee on Wednesday, Thompson said, “Whatever got you here, Secretary Noem, I’m glad you found time among your many photo ops and costume changes to testify about why President Trump is seeking more taxpayer dollars, and what you plan to do with that money if you get it.”
Kristi Noem is also being attacked for staging photo Ops and costume changes during official ICE raids. The shallowness of it all has not gone unnoticed by the American public, as they have given her several nicknames – ‘ICE Barbie’ and ‘Cosplay Kristi’ are just some of the more well known ones.
