Bangladesh diplomats in Iran are suffering prank calls amidst the Israel-Iran War. One diplomat, Oalid Islam, revealed in a post on Tuesday that over 75% of the calls they are receiving on the numbers shared to assist Bangladeshis are prank calls. He said that 75% of the calls his colleague Farooq is receiving are about love and marriage proposals.
He said in his post on Facebook, “My colleagues Farooq and Taher Sahib had shared their phone numbers to assist Bangladeshis currently in Iran. I also shared my number along with Farooq’s in a post.”
He went to add, “Unfortunately, 75% of the calls Faruq is receiving are about love proposals, marriage proposals, asking about the situation in Iran, or how to join the war. Meanwhile, 80% of the calls that Taher Sahib and I are receiving are from people asking if we are okay.”

Obviously frustrated with the turn of events, he went on to assert, “I sincerely beg the people of our country — please don’t engage in such nonsense at this critical moment. Let us survive, and let us help the Bangladeshis who are currently stranded in Iran. There is going to be an attack in the embassy area today. We’ve arranged to evacuate the Bangladeshis staying there within 30 minutes. But please, show some humanity.”
He also stated that “Not calling us unnecessarily right now is the greatest act of kindness you can show.” Oalid Islam had shared the contact numbers of his colleagues in a previous post. He had then requested journalists not to call those numbers seeking information. It appears he had not expected that his colleagues would be bombarded with marriage proposals.
Tehran has suffered heavy bombing by Israeli forces ever since the conflict began. Israel claims that they have established complete air superiority over Iran.
