A devastating flash flood caused by sudden cloudburst has wreaked havoc in Dharali village and the surrounding high altitude areas in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. At least four people have been reported dead while many more injured or missing. Houses and hotels are being swept away by the heavy waters gushing out from the hills causing massive destruction in Uttarkashi.

As per reports, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has deployed the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to the flood affected areas. Three NDRF teams from Manera, Batkot and Dehradun will engage in rescue operations in Uttarkashi. NDRF said, “Further, two teams are in readiness at Shashtradhar airstrip for airlift.”
ITBP informed ANI that a 16-member team has reached the cloudburst site in Uttarkashi for the rescue operations. Another 12th Battalion team is also expected to arrive from Matli in Uttarakhand.

Meanhwhile, District Magistrate of Uttarkashi, Prashant Arya confirmed deaths of four people by the flooding in Dharali village.
Arya said, “A massive wave of flash flood hit the area. We are currently assessing the extent of damage to life and property,” adding, “Keeping that in mind, we have dispatched rescue teams accordingly. Teams from the tehsil and Public Works Department (PWD) have already reached the site.”
Horrific Visuals emerge from Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand
There are horrific visuals coming out of Uttarkashi. Visuals show floodwaters storm through Dharali village, destroying homes, shops and roads.
Preliminary information reveal that some hotels and homestays have been wiped out in the flood. People trapped under the debris and 18 goats washed away by the Kud Gadhera stream.

As per reports, India Meteorological Department noted “extremely heavy” rainfall of around 21 centimetres in the affected region issuing a red alert warning for Uttarakhand’s Dharali.
