During our investigation into the Forum Against Corporatization and Militarization (FACAM), we came across another Communist group with equally problematic inclinations. The Revolutionary Students Front (RSF) is a Bengali Communist organisation in West Bengal. The RSF openly propagates Naxal propaganda and glorifies Naxal terrorists. They are an intrinsic part of a nexus at the forefront of peddling the Naxalite agenda in urban spaces.
The RSF has organised ‘memorial meetings’ to ‘honour’ the martyrdom of Naxalites eliminated during Operation Kagaar. It refers to Maoists as ‘martyrs’ and ‘revolutionaries’, the traditional vocabulary adopted by Radical Communist organisations for Naxalites.
The RSF has also published a documentary denouncing Operation Kagaar that has been widely circulated in Communist circles. In the post announcing the release of the trailer of the documentary, RSF said, “Even as revolutionary groups have repeatedly appealed for a ceasefire and dialogue, the state has responded with bullets, not words. Why? Because Operation Kagar is the blueprint for building a Corporate Hindu Rashtra — crushing resistance, grabbing land, erasing indigenous lives, and outlawing dissent.”
Naxal-linked groups have heavily emphasised the narrative that the Maoists announced a ceasefire during Operation Kagaar. RSF is not the only one. As reported by ForPol earlier, FACAM has also laid special emphasis on it.
RSF and its links to FACAM
RSF has issued statements in support of FACAM and organised protests as well. FACAM activists have claimed recently that they were detained by the Delhi Police. The RSF held a protest against the same, repeating the allegations that Delhi Police tortured the activists in custody. They have not produced any evidence confirming the same.
The protest was held at Jadavpur University in Kolkata. The agenda of the protests also included the alleged detention of activists associated with the Bhagat Singh Chhatra Ekta Manch (BSCEM).
In addition to that, various leftist organisations, including RSF and the Students Federation of India’s (SFI) Jadavpur University Local Committee, issued a statement in support of FACAM and BSCEM. While accusing the Delhi Police of abduction, the statement condemned the ‘Brahminical Hindutva Fascist, communal and pro-corporate policies of the RSS-BJP regime’.
The RSF also put up posters at Jadavpur University demanding the release of activist Baadal from FACAM. Baadal is the same individual who said at an online event, “The Maoist Party is showing sensitivity towards the plight of the people of Bastar.. But… the BJP-RSS led Brahminical-Hindutva Fascist Govt is showing more insensitivity by killing Maoist leaders in Jharkhand, by encircling hundreds of Maoists in the Karregatta Hills.”
Another FACAM member Ethmam Ul Haque glorified Naxal Terrorist Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju during an online interview. Ethmam compared Basavaraju to Hamas Jihadists Sinwar and Haniyeh, who he also glorified.

MUST READ: ‘Urban Naxal’ group worked with Ford Foundation funded org to invite UN into meddling with Indian national security
FACAM also invited the United Nations to meddle into Indian National Security. It submitted a report at the United Nations Human Rights Committee demanding the appointment of a UN Special Rapporteur to “monitor human rights, civil and political rights violations committed” during the war between the Indian Government and Maoists. The report is titled “Violation of Civil and Political Rights of Indigenous Peoples in India”. FACAM submitted the report in collaboration with an organisation that is funded by The Ford Foundation.
RSF glorifies Charu Majumdar, a pioneer of the Naxal Movement
The RSF also demonstrated a shocking tendency to glorify Charu Majumar, one of the pioneers of the Naxalbari Movement. It celebrates the 28th July as the ‘martyrdom anniversary’ of Charu Majumdar. It was on this date that he died.
On the 28th of July, the RSF held a rally to commemorate the “martyrdom” of Charu Majumdar. The rally also commemorated the “martyrdom” of Basavaraju and other Naxalites. In addition to the rally at College Street, Kolkata, a street meeting was conducted in front of the famous Presidency University.
So far, we have seen the disturbing pattern of glorification of Naxal terrorists by RSF. We shall now see their links to groups and institutions abroad.
Revolutionary Students Front issues statement with Pakistani and Bangladeshi groups
On 14th of May, the group demanded an immediate halt to the conflict between India and Pakistan. While it is perfectly ordinary for Indians to demand a cessation of hostilities, the statement in this instance was issued along with dubious Pakistani and other groups.
The statement declares that, “The working masses of India have more in common with the working masses of Pakistan, than the ruling classes of India!” It demanded that the “proxy war in India and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir must be stopped” and “Kashmiris must be granted their long-denied right to self-determination.”
The statement was issued along with Pakistani leftwing groups such as the National Students Federation (NSF) and the Democratic Students Federation (DSF). The Revolutionary Student Youth Movement (RSYM) from Bangladesh also signed the letter. The RSYM, in the past, has held protests in Bangladesh against the Indian Government for alleged ‘attacks’ on students from the Jamia Millia Islamia University.
The Nexus of ‘Urban Naxals’ across Indian Universities
The Revolutionary Students Front is clearly a Radical Communist group. Its love for Naxalites is clear from its social media posts. They oppose the RSS and the BJP. They also oppose the TMC, which they believe is the ‘B-Team’ of BJP.
This article is our second report on the nexus of ‘Urban Naxals’ that have taken over Indian Universities. In the days to come, we hope to publish more reports highlighting the same.
