Bengali Muslims From India Are Being Illegally Deported To Bangladesh: Owaisi

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has claimed that India has been illegally deporting Bengali Muslims to Bangladesh by saying they were ‘illegal immigrants’.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has claimed that India has been illegally deporting Bengali Muslims to Bangladesh by saying they were ‘illegal immigrants’.

The AIMIM leader has been unhappy with the alleged detention and deportation process of Bengali Muslims by the Indian police. According to Owaisi, police across different parts of India were illegally arresting Bengali Muslims and labelling them as Bangladeshi.

He said, “There have been disturbing reports of Indian citizens being pushed into Bangladesh at gunpoint,” adding, “Police in different parts of India have been illegally detaining Bengali-speaking Muslim citizens and accusing them of being Bangladeshi. This government acts strongly with the weak and weak with the strong. Most of those who are accused of being “illegal immigrants” are the poorest of the poor: slum-dwellers, cleaners, domestic workers, rag-pickers, etc. They have been targeted repeatedly because they are not in a position to challenge police atrocities.”

Bengali Muslims Being Detained All Over India

The AIMIM leader blamed the BJP for this and accused the ruling party and the police of being responsible for ‘unfair branding’ the Bengali-speaking Muslims as Bangladeshi.

Owaisi also wrote a post on X about this, where he shared an official letter from the office of the District Magistrate, Gurugram.

Recent reports indicate that Owaisi made a claim following the detention of five Bangladeshi women by Pune police in the Budhwar Peth red-light area. The raid was conducted by the Faraskhana Police Station in collaboration with the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU). Further investigation revealed that the women, aged between 20 and 28, had entered India illegally.

They were living under fake identity cards that falsely identified them as residents of West Bengal. Additionally, they were reportedly involved in prostitution in Pune. In a related incident, a 19-year-old alleged migrant worker named Amir Sheikh, from West Bengal, was allegedly pushed into Bangladesh at gunpoint by the Border Security Force.

It is claimed that Amir was arrested and detained in a facility in Rajasthan for approximately two months. His family’s complaint was prompted only after a video of his situation went viral. Amir’s uncle, Mohammed Ajmaul Sheikh, stated to Scroll: “A contractor had informed us about his arrest, and we had submitted all the necessary documents with his assistance.”

He added, “He submitted Aadhaar cards and birth certificates, but they were not accepted.” Additionally, a senior researcher at the Bangladesh human rights organization Odhikar has spoken out against the alleged illegal deportation of Bengali-speaking Muslims to Bangladesh. She remarked, “Instead of following due legal procedures, India is pushing mainly Muslims and low-income communities from their own country into Bangladesh without consent,” emphasizing that “this action by India violates both national and international law.”
