According to Dublin Live, Lakhbir picked up his passengers, two men from the Northside area of Dublin, who were around 20 or 21 years old. He then took them to their destination near Poppintree. Just after reaching their destination, the two men got violent and attacked Lakhbir, hitting him twice in the head with a bottle.

Lakhbir said, “My name is Lakhbir Singh. I am a taxi driver in Dublin. I got twelve stitches and they throw the bottle for two time. I am bleeding for everywhere. Very Very heavy bleeding everywhere. My heart won’t feel like shaking.” He added, “I am definitely very panicked at the moment.”

Further, he said that he was living in Ireland for more than 23 years. “I have two children here. 16 and 13.”

Rise of racist attacks on Indians in Ireland

On July 19, a 40 year old Indian man on his way to a Temple was humiliated by a group of teenagers in Tallaght. He was assaulted and stripped by the group of 10 teenagers in Dublin who falsely accused the man of inappropriate behaviour around children. Police considered the incident a hate crime.

As per witness Jennifer Murray, the teenage gang had carried out multiple such attacks involving facial stabbing in the area reinforcing that the incident was a hate crime.

“At least four Indian men and another man have been facially stabbed by this gang of teenagers in the last four days in Tallaght. How many of you knew that or saw it on the news?”(sic) Murray said in a video posted on July 20. She said that the man had to undergo a brain scan and was left “completely scared for life”.

In another such attack on July 28, a 30 year old senior data scientist Dr Santosh Yadav was attacked by a group of six ‘teenagers’ on his way back home. He had a fractured cheekbone with multiple injuries after the assault near his Dublin apartment.
