As per reports, there were 169 Indians, 53 British, 7 Portugese, 1 Canadian and 12 crew members in the plane. One user responded to the racist remarks saying that there were British, Canadian and Portuguese citizens on the flight as well.
The user named Aishwarya Shukla said, “I am told White people are from first world countries which indicate they must be having better emotional quotient too. You are free to mock the loss of Indians but you can be sympathetic towards the White lives lost and stop posting racist comments.”
There were 53 UK citizens, 1 Canadian and 7 from Portugal onboard apart from 169 Indians. I am told White people are from first world countries which indicate they must be having better emotional quotient too. You are free to mock the loss of Indians but you can be sympathetic…

In another thread, there was a barrage of tweets targeting the Indians, and the ethnicity of the people onboard the plane.
When I see those stats now I just assume they were all Indians with passports from various countries.

Another account claimed that unless proven, the British nationals were all Patels with British passports. It is important to note that Patel is a common Indian surname.
Indeed.

Until I see a list of names I am assuming it is a bunch of Patels with British passports.
The torrent of racial abuse against Indians in the aftermath of the Ahmedabad Tragedy has further illustrated a very negative aspect of social media. The racist abuse, primarily from White westerners, has been extremely normalised in recent months.

One aspect of the sudden spark in racist abuse against Indians is that since the takeover of Elon Musk, X has started paying people for posting on the platform. The higher engagement the posts get, the higher is the payout.
This has prompted many racists on X to racially abuse Indians since the posts are likely to generate higher engagement due to the outrage factor. The posts will also find a sure audience among X users from countries that do not share good relations with India.
Amidst an uncertain economy in the United States and economic downturn in Canada and Europe, racially abusing Indians has become a convenient avenue to generate petty cash for people.
