Hours after the Trump administration denounced uranium enrichment as a “red line,” Iran’s foreign minister declared that Iran will proceed with its uranium enrichment program whether or not a nuclear agreement with the United States is reached.
Iran will never stray from its objective of enriching uranium, which Tehran maintains is intended for nuclear energy plants rather than bombs, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said, despite US officials being allowed to say whatever they want on television.
A deal is possible if the United States wants to guarantee that Iran won’t possess nuclear weapons, and we’re prepared to have a serious discussion to find a solution that will guarantee that result indefinitely, Araghchi wrote on X Sunday. “Enrichment in Iran, however, will continue with or without a deal.”
“There is no situation in which Iranians will allow deviation from our stance on Iran’s rights as a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), which is very clear,” he continued.
Araghchi’s remarks were made just hours after Steve Witkoff, the US special envoy to the Middle East, stated that enrichment of any kind was a “red line” in the nuclear negotiations with Iran.
This is all happening amidst a time where US President Trump is going around Middle-East and signing deals with countries that traditionally has been ignored by and some could argue, have been hostile to, the USA. Trump, a businessman, like many businessman like him who built upon his father’s legacy have set way of dealing with a problem. “Throw Money At The Problem” – and hopefully it will disappear.
Steve Witkoff, the US special envoy to the Middle East, also added “We have one very, very clear red line, and that is enrichment. We cannot allow even 1% of an enrichment capability, Everything begins … with a deal that does not include enrichment … because enrichment enables weaponization, and we will not allow a bomb to get here,” told ABC.
Since the start of the negotiations with Iran, Witkoff has maintained a strong stand against enrichment in all its forms, despite initial claims by Trump administration officials that Iran might continue to have a civilian enrichment program focused on nuclear energy.
Iran’s rejection of that position is probably going to cause problems with President Trump, who said on Friday that Iran was almost ready to agree to his plan for a nuclear deal.
In reference to his earlier warnings of military action if a deal is not made, Trump cautioned that Tehran must act swiftly to accept the proposal or “something bad is going to happen.” Only President Trump could thin that this stick and carrot approach, which has not worked to pacify Iran since Islamic revolution will miraculously work. And it’s all because President Trump believes so.
Another example of infantile nature of President Trump has been how quickly he went from threatening to bomb Tehran’s nuclear facility. A threat repeatedly trivialized by the Iranian side.
Concern has been raised over Iran’s nuclear program after the International Atomic Energy Agency warned that the country was increasing its stockpile of enriched uranium and getting close to the threshold required to produce nuclear weapons.
Thus, thinking the world would cower in front of you just because you use the word ‘trade’ as if you are the only country that trades with the world is a clear indicator of God Complex. The problem is , you can only declare yourself a god but the followers make you one. As things stand now, Tehran does not reciprocate Trump’s misplaced ego.
