An old video has surfaced on X where Mamdani can be seen participating in a controversial rally. He is seen saying in the video, “I am here today to protest against the BJP government in India and the demolition of the Babri Masjid that attempted to build a temple on the ruins of it.” In the same video, the mob is heard saying, “Who are the Hindus? Harami (Bastards).” The video is believed to be from 2020.

The representative of the 36th District in the New York State Assembly has been involved in several controversies in the past due to his far-left political ideology. He was arrested in 2023, a week after the Hamas terrorist attacks on October 7, during a pro-Palestine protest outside Senator Chuck Schumer’s house.

Zohran Kwame Mamdani is the son of Indian-American filmmaker Mira Nair and Ugandan Academic Mahmood Mamdani. Mahmood is the Chancellor of the Kampala International University in Uganda. Mahmood has been a long time advocate against Israel as well. He had said in a speech at Columbia University in 2014, “The Palestinian challenge is to persuade the Jewish population and the world … the longtime security of a Jewish homeland in historic Palestine requires the dismantling of the Jewish state … Jews can have a homeland in historic Palestine, but not a state.”
