The Pakistan Army received a lot of criticism for the brutal attack. The Pakistan Army has been conducting military operations to crack down on alleged insurgents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan region.
However, on Sunday night, the Pakistan Army used fighter jets to drop bombs in villages killing civilians. Human Rights and Pashtun groups have often accused the Pakistan Army of waging a war on Pashtuns.
HRCP takes cognisance of the strike on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has taken cognisance of the attack and condemned the incident. It said in a statement, “HRCP is deeply shocked to learn that a number of civilians, including children, have been killed, allegedly as a result of aerial bombing in Tirah, Khyber district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.”
The statement also added, “We demand that the authorities carry out an immediate and impartial inquiry into the incident and hold to account those responsible. The state is constitutionally bound to protect all civilians’ right to life, which it has repeatedly failed to secure.”
The Pakistan Army’s War on Pashtuns
Pakistan has been waging a war on Pashtuns for a long time. Earlier In May, a drone strike in the Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa injured 16 civilians. Then in March, a drone strike killed 9 civilians, including women and children. In another attack in May, the Pakistan Army killed 4 children.
