There has been recent incidents of ships sinking mysteriously in the Arabian Sea raising suspicions of sabotage near the Kerala coast. A probe has been launched by a group of European consortium of marine insurers who visited Kerala shortly after the incidents. The Joint Maritime Insurance Committee based in USA raised an alarm having detected significant signs of EMP level activity in the region.
A possible use of electromagnetic pulse devices (EMP) or high-power microwave (HPM) is under the scanner. Authorities are now monitoring any abnormal power activity around the sites where the capsizing of ships have taken place.
It is worth noting that suspected EMP or HPM device is capable of disabling complex electronic system or even causing chemical reactions that might cause fire. Turkey’s Alka – Dew is under focus. It is one such lethal system system which can damage electronic system from distance.
Turkish weapon manufacturing company Rocketsan develops such systems which emits electromagnetic waves of 2.5 to 5 kilowatts. These weapons can destroy electronics within a range of 1000 to 1500 metres.
Recently two ships capsized under mysterious conditions in the Arabian Sea near Kerala triggering a global alarm. The Singapore flagged WAN HAI 503 sank 90 miles off the coast of Kerala after multiple explosions and fires. The cargo ship was on route to Mumbai. Explosions caused 40 containers to fall in the sea, crew members jumped overboard to save their lives.
In another separate incident, Liberia-flagged MSC ELSA3 sank releasing 100 containers of oil into the water. This happened 38 nautical miles off Kerala. Authorities have rescued the crew members. But oil leaked into the sea. Kerala Chief Minister’s Office issued a statement, “The Coast Guard is taking steps to block the oil with two ships. A Dornier aircraft is also being used to spray oil-destroying powder on the oil slick,”. Cyprus-based MSC Shipmanagement was the owner of the ship.
Meanwhile, Turkey is heavily investing in electromagnetic weapon technology. As per reports, Turkey which is a strong ally of Pakistan is developing electromagnetic weapons six times faster than the speed of sound. Electromagnetic artillery system known as TUFAN manufactured by Turkish Company ASELSAN is in the testing phase. This system travel 2 to 5 times the speed of sound and has the capability to sabotage aircrafts and ballistic missiles.

China also demonstrated its unconventional weapons capability when it reportedly used a long range acoustic weapon to harass a Philippine Coast Guard Vessel. The weapon is called LRAD (Long Range Acoustic Device). LRAD is a special loudspeaker that emits powerful soundwaves over long distances. It operates in extremely high decibel ranges and can cause permanent hearing damage.

LRAD gained global attention in November 2005 after it successfully thwarted pirates attempt on a cruise ship off the coast of Somalia. Recognizing its potential, LRAD was adopted by military worldwide. The technology however was invented by the US after 2000 Al-Qaeda bombing of the USS Cole, a guided missile destroyer of the United States Navy.
