With Deputy Defense Minister Muana Brima Massaquoi emphasizing the urgent need for African nations to band together against the threat and cautioning that delay could bring the threat to their shores, Sierra Leone has shown significant support for India’s stance on fighting terrorism.
The Shiv Sena-led Indian all-party delegation provided support for Sierra Leone. Following the terrorist assault in Pahalgam, MP Shrikant Eknath Shinde traveled to Sierra Leone from May 28 to 30 as part of India’s diplomatic outreach.
The purpose of the visit was to increase awareness of the serious threat posed by terrorism and to secure worldwide support. According to a statement from the Indian High Commission in Freetown, the delegation emphasized India’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and the significance of international cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
Key dignitaries from Sierra Leone, such as the Speaker of the Parliament, Members of Parliament and the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Minister of Defense, the National Security Coordinator, the acting Foreign Minister, and the Vice President of Sierra Leone, met extensively with the delegation. According to the statement, the Sierra Leonean Parliament held a moment of silence to honor the attack victims and denounced the terrorist attack at Pahalgam in a powerful demonstration of solidarity.

According to the statement, Sierra Leone’s vice president, Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, expressed his condolences for the deaths, denounced the terrorist act at Pahalgam, and reaffirmed his country’s solidarity with India. Daniel Brima Koroma, the deputy leader of the opposition, and Col (Retd) Massaquoi, the deputy defense minister, both strongly supported India’s position and denounced terrorism. According to the statement, Minister Massaquoi emphasized the critical necessity for African countries to band together in the fight against terrorism, cautioning that failure to do so could bring the threat to their own shores.
To encourage international action against terrorism and firmly oppose the strategies of those who commit, encourage, and fund cross-border acts of violence against India, the delegation spoke with foreign diplomats in Sierra Leone.
Additionally, the delegation engaged with the Indian diaspora and local media, reinforcing the long-standing connection between Sierra Leone and India. Sasmit Patra, a delegation member, emphasized the necessity for Pakistan to stop state-sponsored terrorism in a live interview with AYVnews TV Chanel, which struck a chord with local viewers, the statement said.
Calls for coordinated action at the UN Security Council, Financial Action Task Force, and other international forums to combat terrorism and maintain world peace were made at the end of the visit. The group was one of seven multi-party delegations sent by India to 33 major cities around the world in an effort to draw attention to Pakistan’s ties to terrorism.
