A detention centre surrounded by beasts: All you need to know about Trump’s Alligator Alcatraz

Alligator Alcatraz in Florida Everglades is in the middle of wetlands and swamps where alligators and Burmese Pythons thrive along with mosquitoes.

A detention facility in Florida, Alligator Alcatraz, is ready to house thousands of illegal migrants before they are deported. As per reports, it took just 8 days to built Alligator Alcatraz which is located in the remote Florida Everglades.

A reporter asked Trump if the name Alligator Alcatraz meant the illegal migrants who try to escape gets eaten by the alligators surrounding the facility.

Trump said, “I guess that is the concept. This is not a nice business…snakes are fast but alligators.. we are going to teach them how to run away from alligators. Do not run in a straight line. Run like this. You know what, your chances go up about 1%. Okay. That a good thing.”

A Fox News anchor asked Stephen Miller, White House Chief of Staff for Policy, “Why was the facility needed?” Miller was also asked if he would ask other states in America to follow a similar detention policy even if they have no alligators.

Miller said, “..Thanks to President Trump’s ICE arrests nation wide, all of the ice beds have been filled up. So we need to begin contracting immediately to expand the number of ICE beds and this partnership with the state of Florida, and Florida is using a law named as 287 G, that allows state and local law enforcement deputized by the secretary of Homeland Security to conduct immigration functions.”

He further added, “So this is a state facility supported by DHS that allows us to increase significantly the beds..” Miller then called out all the governors of the Republican States to work with the American government in building such detention facilities in their respective states. He said he wanted the Democrats ruled states also to follow the same but according to Miller, Democrats supported the illegal aliens.

Why the name Alligator Alcatraz?

This detention camp in Florida Everglades is in the middle of wetlands and swamps where alligators and Burmese Pythons thrive along with a swarm of mosquitoes. Alcatraz here refers to a prison, a name taken from a famous prison on Alcatraz Island in San Francisco.

James Uthmeier, Florida’s Attorney General explained, “There’s no way in and no way out. The perimeter’s already set by Mother Nature. People get out, there’s not much waiting for them other than pythons and alligators.”

Uthmeier also posted a video of the Alcatraz on the social media platform X. He called it one-stop shop to carry out President Trump’s mass deportation agenda.

How are the Environmentalists reacting?

Environmentalists and immigration activists have denounced Alligator Alcatraz. According to them, the facility will destroy the natural habitat of the alligators and pythons living there. Two Environmental groups like the Friends of the Everglades and the Center for Biological Diversity filed a lawsuit in Miami. They want to stop the project because proper environmental studies had not taken place.
