A Sikh woman in her 20s was raped in Oldbury on Tuesday during a “racially aggravated attack”, as per the BBC. A Police spokesperson said that the men made a racist comment during the attack. Chief Superintendent Kim Madill said, “We are working really hard to identify those responsible, with CCTV, forensic and other inquiries well under way.”
The two accused have been described as being White. The Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward. According to The Sikh Federation (UK), the attackers told the woman, “You don’t belong in this country, get out.”
Sikh Federation official Dabinderjit Singh said, “The current racist political environment is driven by populism and created by politicians playing the anti-immigration card who are unashamedly exploiting those with right-wing and racist views.

Singh also condemned the lack of public condemnation from public officials. He said, “More than 48 hours later we await the public condemnation by politicians on all sides of this brutal racist and sexual attack where a young Sikh woman has been viciously beaten and raped.”
Labour MP for Smethwick Gurinder Singh Josan said, “I have now spoken with the Borough Commander Chief Supt Kim Madill and am reassured Sandwell Police are doing everything they possibly can to find the perpetrators.”
“The incidence is being treated as a hate crime. The police are working extremely sympathetically with the victim at her pace who has been traumatised by the attack,” she added.
The Sikh woman is the latest victim in an ever increasing list
There have been an increasing number of violent crimes against Indian migrants and people of Indian-origin in western countries. Recently, an Indian motel manager was beheaded by an illegal immigrant from Cuba in broad daylight.
In August, a taxi driver in Ireland became the victim of a racist attack. Lakhbir was attacked by two men who told him to “Go back to your own country”. He received no help from people nearby.
