The photograph had created a lot of controversy as Islamists abused and trolled the girl for the apparent ‘un-Islamic’ act. The girl has now come forward to describe the harrowing ordeal she has suffered since then.

The girl appeared in a video with her mother to admit that she committed a mistake. However, the mistake was not grave enough to incite such a vile response. She said, “I became very stressed and made several attempts to suicide. My parents stopped me. They said I had not committed a mistake that does not warrant forgiveness.”

CWC Anantnag instructs trolls to delete Kashmir Girl videos
The Child Welfare Committee, Anantnag has instructed social media users to remove the video. In a statement to The Kashmiriyat, the CWC said that “the undue circulation of the video violates the right of privacy of the minor”. It has led to the minor receiving “immoral and threatening comments.”

Furthermore, authorities have told users to “delete the content immediately and refrain from disseminating it further.” They have also threatened legal action.
Orthodox Muslims had trolled the girl for hugging someone who is not her ‘Mehram’. While abusing and trolling the girl, they had mourned the alleged decline of Islamic values in Kashmir. The trolls used phrases such as “moral rot” to describe the photograph.
